The little things we think don’t matter actually do. A LOT.
I used to think about this in the fear-based sense of “if I skip meditation today, it becomes easier to skip the next, and the next and the next; before I know it, I’ll hit rock bottom.”
BLECH. GROSS. YUCKY.
In my physical health journey, I’m learning that the more I’m pushing my body to its limit the more the small day-to-day things really matter.
I can feel the difference after a day of rest, after I’ve chosen nutritious food, after I’ve chosen fattening and sugary foods.
My “aha” moment has just been the reminder that the small steps matter, but in an entirely different way than I’d been thinking about them before.
The “pedal to the metal” life I’ve lived for the last 30 years wasn’t sustainable. I would experience these peaks and valleys.
Eventually, I just ended up sick, with so much extra weight on me that my joints just couldn’t handle it. The most basic movement hurt me.
That life it’s not sustainable for the majority of us, although I hear that some people dig it.
From what I've seen, it mostly just creates a world of burned out people.
The cycle of ups and downs for me ends NOW.
I’m committing to slow and steady. Not easy for this double fire sign!
And, for anyone who needs to hear this- it’s okay for you to just take the small step. You don’t have to do it all right now.
Magic wands and glitter bombs,
Mallory
