Set Yourself Up for EASY Wins!

Don’t be so hard on yourself.

When we start to make changes in our lives, the place so many of us trip ourselves up is when we want something so much we want to just go 0-60 and have what we want right away.

There’s a reason such a small percentage of humans actually achieve what they set out to do for their New Year’s Resolutions. That’s because nothing magically occurs on the first of the year to make us all of a sudden have the habits in place we need to achieve our goals.

I’ll give you a personal example. I can’t tell you how many times I resolved at the beginning of the year to lose weight. I was going to work out every day for an hour. I was going to eat the government-recommended amount of five fruits and veggies every day. The problem was that I was living a largely sedentary lifestyle and it was a miracle if I ate even a single serving of fruits and vegetables per day.

I would do it perfectly for the first week. The second week, I’d start consuming less fruits and vegetables. The last thing to fall off track would be the workouts because, in general, I actually love to move my body…just not in the exercise-y way.

More often than not, I would actually gain weight the same year I’d pledge to do the opposite and beat myself up because I’d done it so perfectly the first week!!! So why couldn’t I just continue?!?!

What have I pledged to do differently this time? First, I’ve taken the focus off of losing weight.

I got a hormone test and started taking appropriate supplements to heal myself from the inside out.

I’m focused on movement that brings me pleasure and joy.

I started with 3 minutes of movement per day. I even have a backup movement practice- doing arm weights in front of the TV- for the days that are super busy for me. Then I added in a green juice through Athletic Greens; it’s literally a powder that makes it so easy to get the nutrients your body needs.

And guess what? I’m starting to have more of the experience that I thought losing weight was going to provide me! This is occurring whether or not the number on the scale changes.

What I’m doing now isn’t the endgame; it’s just part of the process.

And the process- the journey- gets to be so incredibly enjoyable along the way. There’s no need to be so hard on ourselves for not getting it right. We’re just learning to walk before we run.

Whatever you desire to experience, what’s an easy win that you can set yourself up for? The thing you could do today that you don’t think will make a difference? Let me tell you that the small thing, done consistently over time, compounds; it can absolutely create the change you’ve been so deeply desiring. Need support on your personal journey?
